Kaizen Health and Fitness

In order to operate at your best and get the most out of life you really need to have sufficient energy levels to do that.  As someone who is often tired in the mornings, at work and in the evenings there are many occasions when I put of doing constructive things due to lack of energy.

This lack of energy is something I've wanted to reverse for some time.  If I can jump out of bed each morning and get going and stop experiencing energy lags in the afternoon that would be a great thing and I know I could achieve quite a bit more each day.

Kaizen is a Japanese word that means continuous and never-ending improvement.  It also means starting with
realistic targets and gradually striving for better to end up with results that may seem impossible right now.

Instead of setting impossible targets of radical overnight change I decided to buy a juicer.  Something I have wanted to buy for some time and finally did it.

The theory is that the human system is designed for a diet of mostly raw vegetables with some fruit.  No additives, chemicals or cooked meats which are very difficult for your body to digest.  However to eat enough veg to get the required number of nutrients and calories you'd be eating salads all day.  The juicer reduces large volumes of veg to a single glass that is very easy to digest.  As your body is spending less energy digesting that energy is available to you to use as you wish.

I do feel that for the past week I have mostly had more energy.  I plan to continue adding small subtle changes and developing new health habits so my energy levels continue to increase.  I've also got a sprouter to grow wheatgrass so when that is ready in the next 5 days that will be my next small step.

I would recommend pH Miracle by Dr Robert O. Young
This is a very good entry level juicer which is easy to clearn Matstone 6 in 1 Juicer

Get rich with Network Marketing... Don't do it! Start your own system!

I used to phone up every number and visit every website I saw advertising some get rich quick scheme.
The idea is simple, you make commission by selling something but if you recruit people you also get a % of what they sell.  Most people then become so focused on recruiting others they rarely sell anything themselves.

It sounds great to just sit back, let others do the work and let the money roll in.  But can things ever be that great?

MLM systems often do reward the people who got in first and therefore have more chance of getting the most people under them.  They also reward the company or people behind it as they get a fee when people join as well as profit on sales across all recruits.

But how can MLM benefit most people?  It can't, but the principle behind it can.

Using myself as an example, I work hard, add value to a company which generates wealth for shareholders.  I get small reward for doing that, but it will always be less than the shareholders otherwise the shareholders would get nothing and they are the ones that set up and funded the company and they decide the rules.

I then pay my mortgage which helps the banks profit.  They profit as they had money to lend me when I needed it.  If I rent then I am effectively paying my Landlords mortgage or if this is paid off then the rent goes directly to my landlady to spend/invest.

The system rewards those at the top who have money to invest in companies or to lend to banks.  Most people stay at the bottom and help keep those at the top at the top.

If however you can spend a bit less than you earn and invest the difference it will generate a return.  Keep saving and reinvest your profits and those returns will grow.  Eventually you may have enough to stop working (given enough time – stop smoking so you live long enough for it to work).  As soon as your investments generate enough to live on and a bit more to reinvest then you cannot help but continue to get richer (as long as you invested wisely and don't lose too much).

People who are born rich have an advantage as they were always at the top of the system and probably have learned from their parents/grandparents how to invest and keep on top.  But there is no reason to stop any of us from growing those investments and reaching the top.  One day we can be sitting at home with our feet up while the money rolls in.  We don't need to have hundreds of people working under us to achieve this, we just need to have our money working hard for us.

Start your own MLM system where you will always be able to win, you don't need to alienate your friends trying to sell them things they don't want to recruit them and you don't need to ‘fake it until you make it’.  Just spend less than you earn and keep investing the difference.

Stop paying interest, start earning interest!

The Importance of Routine

My main goal in life is to end the dull and mundane routine of facing a long commute each morning to a job where I spend most of my waking hours to work for someone else, getting home with just enough time to do a few chores, eat dinner and sleep.  I had started to hate the word routine and wanted my life to be more spontaneous but I recently learnt that it is not routine itself that is a bad thing, but what the specific routine is.

I plan to go to the gym at least twice a week whenever I can fit it in, sometimes at the weekend, sometimes in the evening.  But recently I have not been for some time.  If on the other hand I were going Karate classes that were every Tuesday at 7pm then I would have no choice but to schedule my day and my week around those classes to avoid missing them.  With my current Gym schedule everything else takes priority and that means that by thinking I can always go tomorrow or the day after instead I now go only infrequently.  In reality I should schedule the Gym every Tuesday, the chores can wait until tomorrow, I can try to see my friends or family other evenings where possible and my own health and enjoyment now that it is scheduled becomes the priority.

I think many people who don't work, both the rich and the poor often find that without a routine and nothing to do all day and all week they can often end up depressed or reliant on drink, drugs or excessive quantities of bad food to keep going.

When I eventually escape from cubicle prison I will need to keep busy at least 4 days a week by scheduling gym sessions, learning new skills or training for challenges, investing, charity work et... Just sitting at home relaxing every day will not really allow me to enjoy my freedom any more than someone at home all day on benefits.

I am going to develop a series of schedules, daily, weekly, monthly and yearly that will constantly be reviewed to make sure they are of benefit to me.

Each morning I wake up, spend 10 minutes in bed.  Get up spend 10 minutes watching the news, eat breakfast, get back to the news.  Wash up the breakfast dishes and last nights dinner, often going back to the news before getting in the shower and off to work.  I often end up seeing the same news items more than once so it is really not that efficient.

My new schedule is to keep my brain active.  Each morning I will juggle, do one Sudoku puzzle, play one game of chess, one game of Tetris and one game of Scrabble.  This might sound like it is a waste of time and not that helpful but I personally believe it will improve my mind power and get my brain working for the rest of the day.  It certainly can't be any less productive than my current routine.

I will see how long this takes each morning and I then plan to add in some exercise, press-ups, sit ups, yoga/breathing exercises maybe even a morning walk/run.  I may do exercise one morning and brain exercise the next or I might even have time to do everything each morning.  But with any new habit the hardest part is starting.  I plan to start small and keep it easy for myself.  Then I will gradually make things a bit harder, I think if I try and do too much too soon I will end up going back to old habits.

I would like to mention www.zenhabits.com in regard to this post.  I have been a reader for some time and think there is some great advice on new beginnings.  The author has accomplished some amazing things in the past few years despite having a large family and for the most part a full time job.  Starting small and doing something you can later build on is better than doing nothing.

Earn Cashback on your Shopping!

Now at ASDA you can get 1% cashback on your shopping when you use Quidco that is quite a good deal and not available at any other supermarket in the UK.

Also for a limited time you will get £5 off your first online order.  If you've not used Quidco before it allows you to shop as you normally would, but always use the link on their site before you start shopping.  That way Quidco earn a commission on what you buy, but give it all back to you (less £5 per year).

How to be a better person?

If you ever see someone and wish that you could be more like them, perhaps they are more confident, more well spoken, harder working etc...What we have to remember is that everything in the world is a reflection of ourselves.  If we see something in someone else (good or bad) then it will also be somewhere inside us.

Next time you see a character trait that you like, search deep inside yourself to find it and make a conscious effort to emulate it. In saying this of course, next time you find you are complaining about someone being lazy, a gossip or too critical then find this trait inside you and make a real effort to avoid displaying this for 10 days.

If you can remember each day to try out your new character trait then after 10 days it will almost be a habit.  Likewise if you can consciously control something for 10 days it will soon start to fade on its own.

Personally I have found myself so caught up in making this website a success recently that I have not been paying much attention to what people are saying around me.  I always have my mind elsewhere and give some brief one word response to people which must make them realise that I was not paying attention to them.

I am going to make a real effort to be present, listen and focus on people and then give a carefully considered and timely response.  I think real leaders in life listen to people and make them feel important knowing it is as important, if not more to have people on board rather than just pursuing a goal.

Happy Karwa Chauth and Organising iPhone's!

Firstly I’d like to say Happy Karwa Chauth to anyone celebrating this today. It is a real honour to know that someone is will to not drink and starve all day for your good health and I’m sure all your husbands appreciate it even if you don’t realise they do.

I got an iPhone a few months ago and I have been using it to stay organised. I like having one of everything, one diary, one set of contacts, one e-mail account, one to do list… I don’t like having lots of different versions all over the place that I need to manually update.

Firsly you will need a Gmail or Google Apps account and an iPhone. Then here is what you do:

Analysis Paralysis

I received my official run time yesterday and I did some analysis on it to show just how disappointing the time actually was.  I compiled a table with the average times for each age group.

So this meant that 70% of all the other runners were faster than me, 76% of men faster than me and the only people I ran faster than (beat more than half) were men over 70 and women over 45!

This means the average man over 60 (of which there were 43) 27 of them ran faster than me, in my prime at 26!

I could keep analysing these number all day, but they tell the same message, that I need to run much faster!  I need to knock 25% off my times.  This is going to be very tough but I must be able to do it.  If men in their 60’s can then I should be able to do it.

Whilst I think it is important to analyse your performance and put it into perspective what I must do now is stop analysing and start running!
